"What do you want for your birthday?"

Do people really expect you to answer that question truthfully? I mean I love my few friends I really do and honesty is everything to me but... Over the past 6 years I've learned what friendship is but it sure as hell doesn't involve being honest about what I really want for my birthday (Marc Jacobs sage leather hobo, a new i Pod, a trip to Sant Tropez, YSL trench coat, leather hoodie-jacket, Ferragamo loafers, Morrissey tickets, Unloveable on LP, Kat Von D session, a paint job for my car, etc...) . If I told people when they asked me (as Monica did today) what I really wanted for my birthday they'd probably tell me to get the fuck outta town. So please don't even ask. Don't get me shit, really. I want laughter on my birthday. This year has been a little stressful so I can use a good laugh. Tonight I had a few courtesy of D.L. Hughley on HBO. ANYWAY...
I am a product of the 80's, I am a consuming jerk. I always had dreams of big gift boxes and being plesantly surprised. My parents didn't understand that my siblings and I were living in a time where we were surrounded by kids who had cool disney themed birthday parties/sleep-overs, friends over for dinner, peer pressure, Bop and Big Bopper, Silver Spoon dreams, aspirations of being a Cosby kid, dreams of walking the Just Say No parade with Nancy Reagan and Punky Brewster. For my parents it was always easier to give me 50bucks on my birthday and buy me a cake from the Chinese bakery than tolerate any kids that weren't theirs in their home.
My parents threw me 1 birthday party and when my parents threw my siblings and I parties we'd be excited until we realized the only ones having fun were the grown ups. Oh, but on my 11th birthday I was living in Perris CA. & at the time my cousin Mayra (who also happened to go to school with me) was at my house and my mom made this cool dinner. After we ate she told me that she hadn't gotten paid yet so she could either give me 10 dollars now or if I waited she would give me 50. I took the ten. I took the 10, and Mayra and I walked over to a music store that was 2 blocks away and there it was. The first Color Me Badd tape. I bought that for 8 bucks then treated my cousin to a Coke and Snickers bar and we practically ran home to listen to I Wanna Sex You Up about 1000 times. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I would have waited, perhaps I would have been surprised. Being surprised is a great feeling, so for once I'd like to be surprised if anyone out there really is getting me anything. My parents never surprise me (pleasantly, walking in on them buck ass ne'kkid was a whole other kind of surprise), Jesse hates to be surprised and to surprise, & my friends work too hard to plan a surprise. I have realized that after 22, gifts don't matter anymore, they really don't. If I want anything bad enough I usually buy it for myself. Last year was pretty cool because my friends & family joined me at the park for my birthday and I had a good time just having them there, and it was a surprise that so many people showed up. This year I want my friends to join me at the Detour festival or breakfast the following day. So on my 27th I want good friends, good food, and good music.
I can't wait to see the Comedians of Comedy, Kinky, & Justice. Anyway, I gotta go drop a surprise in the crapper. Good night.

Fitter (?), happier, more productive...

Today was the start of my new job. I like it. They treat me like the baby of the office. I signed up for benefits! Wtf are those? Until today I didn't really know. I was almost stressed out about choosing a benefactor. The day went smooth, & the drive down there wasn't bad either. After work I headed to class and nearly passed out. My first math test is in 1 week so this week I gotta study.
Friday afternoon I am headed to the Eagle Rock Farmers Market to celebrate with a savory crepe and green plums.
I have to try and keep up with this blog crap too.

I wonder what Brit is up to.

I just got home from a pretty good day and it's only 4:37 so chances are there's still some goodness left to be had before the day ends. I have taken the rest of the week off because I start a new job on Monday so I am taking time out to get a few things in order, and enjoy myself. Today I got a car wash, filled Zeus up with gas, went to lunch with Kelly, bought my neice a birthday gift, went to Target, and I bought the new Kanye West CD. It's dope. I love Kanye. I just checked out this video of him losing his marbles as he got dissed on sunday at the VMA's. Drama.
As for the CD I already have a few favorites. I like Everything I am, and Glory. The guys working the cd section at Target were talking about the 50 Cent & Kanye hype. They said more people are buying the Kanye. 50 is a retard. His songs are great at the club but that's about it. That Ayo Technology song is good but if it weren't Justin taking part in it I really wouldn't care.
I'm gonna try and get tickets to the Ellen taping on thursday. Kanye is gonna be there and the show is filmed 1 block away from where I live so being that I don't have shit to do I might as well try to check it out.
Ooh and I was reading on Pitchfork that Radiohead had completed recording their new album. This makes me giddy.

Oh Britney.

I honestly can not say I feel disappointed. If anything I'm wondering what the hell kind of drug she was on. She was lacking major confidence. I think next time she performs live she will be better. She needs to hit the gym if she plans on wearing hot pants. Call me up girl we'll go on hikes together.
I mean what could we really expect from a wacked out E addict who hasn't been out of bars since she gave birth. I am surprised she didn't fall on her ass. Bitch was stiff as hell.
Will I stop praying for her? Nope.

Dear Britney,

Don't embarrass me tonight. If you fuck up I will no longer pray for you.

Sincerely,
Yvette

p.s. GO RAIDERS!

sunday! sunday ! sunday!

Britney@ the VMA's Ya'll!

Barren County Kty.?

I was watching the news and apparently some poll rated Barren County Kentucky as the best place to live in rural America. Yeah, perhaps if you are white it is. Brown people can't even drive through rural America w/o getting stares.
I am not one to use my race/ethnicity as an excuse or barrier, for me it's more like a punchline, but as I get older I notice how racist America really is. I like to think people judge me because I'm fat but yet they more often judge because I'm Mexican, no matter how acculturated I might be. Sucks. I don't really sweat those things, racism, ignorance, dumb asses, etc. but lately it's annoying.
Another topic I need to vent about is the price of textbooks. Dude. 165.00 for a math book? That's a fresh pair of nikes and a nice lunch. Education is damn expensive. That's the man's way of keeping us uneducated, high costs'. Little does he know.

Long day.

First of all let me start this post by saying R.I.P. Pavarotti. What a voice. Seriously.
OK... hmmm how can I segue, so on to happy news, the new Ipod is out! It's just as I predicted, IPhone II. Touch screen and all but lousy on the gigs.I think I'm going to get the 80 gig "Classic". Let's see how big the bonus is on the 10th.
In other happenings, today I managed to crash and get into a math class. BARF. I know I have to do it, and putting it off isn't going to make it go away so I thought fuck it, let's do this. Math is probably my number 1 fear aside from rollercoasters, and having closet gay husband. Jesse knows about that fear he says I'm retarded, and I am but whatever, fears are supposed to be irrational. What helps this time around (btw this is the 3rd time i take this class) is that I know of 2 other people taking this class (Heidi & Marta) and we are all pretty pumped about passing it and moving on with our academic careers.
Ok gotta go pee. Peas.

It's getting hot it herrre

This office is unbearably hot today and it also smells like old taco bell fart. The landlord came by a minute ago and asked if he could have someone service our AC. I IM'd the boss lady and she said it was cool so we'll see if they can help us out and get some cool air in here. It's been so hot I finally broke out into my heat rash. It had been too great of a summer and then BAM, i start to develop red tiny itchy bumps on my neck and face. It's a reminder that fall is coming and that soon I will be wrapped in sweaters and blankets in my bi-polar apartment. It goes from hot as fuck to cold as a mofo.
This morning on my commute over to work I was listening to M.I.A.'s Kala and I really like $20. Jimmy is my favorite though. It takes all 3 of my favorite dance eras and mixes them up into one dope ass sound. It takes the disco sparkles and violins, the deep house bass beat, and the cha cha girl laser beam and has it's way with them. I tried looking for it on vinyl but had no luck. Now with all these laptop dj's, vinyl releases will not be as common. barftastic.
Anyway I don't even know why I come to work anymore. The office is super crowded now, but I need at least 8 days pay to be able to transition from this job to the new one which starts on the 17th. I plan on making my last day at A+ 9/11 (for dramatic purposes of course) but I think it might be 9/8. I could use a week off to go to San Diego and chill with my family. However, if I get into the math class I need it will be Monday/Wednesday and won't be able to take a whole week off and go to san diego anyway. So let me stick to 9/11 as the last day at this job. I will be in san diego from 9/13-9/16.
OK I should get to finding something to do.

it's so hot.

How hot is it? It's sooo hot I'm just gonna sit here and typeout brainfarts. This heat really annoys me. I should be out. It's 12:19 on a saturday night and I am home, sweating. I should have gone to check out Land's club but we got back kinda tired from Ruben's and so now here I am wondering why I just didn't go to San Diego this weekend. In san diego I'd be watching tv or perhaps I would have jumped in the pool. Not really jumped more like walked into the pool (I guess) because since I don't know how to swim, jumping into a pool wouldn't be very smart.
Anyway tomorrow I think I'm gonna give this place a deep cleaning. I have been a lousy house-girlfriend lately. I need to sweep and pick up my shit, or vice versa. Everyday when I get home from work I kick off my shoes (ok maybe not kick, more like slip) and leave them where-ever they happen to land. I also have a messy ass closet right now. Ughh.
I wanna go see Superbad, maybe it's still playing at the Vista. We (Marta & I ) thought about BBQ'ing but it's fucken 108 degrees w/o a grill in my face so let's just leave it that way. Jesse has to do laundry, so i'll be here cleaning and when he gets back we'll devise a plan. I hope it can include Pinkberry. That shit is bombdiggity. Ok i'll stop. Good night.
